Boater, 53, Dies After Circling Vessel Runs Aground On Raritan Bay In Sayreville, Police Say
A 53-year-old man died after his boat ran aground on the Raritan Bay Monday, June 3, authorities said.
Kenneth Halvorsen Jr., of Toms River, was found on the vessel that had been moving in a circular pattern in the bay in Sayreville around 1:55 p.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.
The boat ran aground prior to troopers' arrival, Lebron said. Halvorsen was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Halvorsen worked at Pells Bait and Tackle, a fishing shop in Brick, according to social media and those who knew him.

An alert has been issued by Metro Crime Stoppers, which is offering a reward as they attempt to track down a suspected shooter who allegedly fired shots during an altercation inside the Harford Mall on Sunday.
Lisa Gregg, 60, of Edgewood and Lateia Green, 37, of Middle River have been arrested, but a new alert was issued by the agency as they attempt to track down Wesley Larry Lyons, 35, who remains at large a day after the shooting.
He is considered armed and dangerous, according to police, though his vehicle was reportedly located unoccupied in Edgewood.

State troopers are investigating a bank robbery in McAdoo on Thursday, May 30.
Police said the suspect walked into the First National Bank, 25 N. Kennedy Drive, and passed the teller a note demanding money around 10:45 a.m.
He made off with $2,100, fleeing on foot toward East 4th Street before heading south on North Cleveland Street, troopers said.
The suspect was a white man in his 30s with a black beard and a slender frame, according to investigators. Authorities said he wore a pink flannel/plaid jacket, sunglasses, and a gray or white baseball cap.

A 32-year-old Jefferson Township man was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Friday, May 31, after pleading guilty to raping a child, authorities said.

Black Bear Spotted In Haverhill, Police Issue Warning
Police have asked residents in Haverhill to be on alert after multiple people spotted a black bear in the Windsor Street, Mill Street, and Lake Saltonstall area.
Haverhill police issued the warning in a Facebook post on Monday, June 3.
Black bears are usually afraid of people, and will likely run away if confronted. However, there is still a risk, and residents should take steps to prevent a close encounter with the animal, Haverhill police said.
